Change perspective
As Jürgen Künkel, Managing Partner, shares weekly tips via his Linkedin channel, let's join him here for week two.
Event owners and their teams trust me to run their most prestigious events smoothly.
But how does it work? Well, it is complicated. So one thing I do with a high success rate of spotting failures before the show is to change perspective, because being in the room from the start of the setup can make you and your colleagues working on it blind.
I walk the stage as a speaker.
Take a mic, speak, click through the content, check the comfort screens, and anything that could be a disturbance. Speakers should not face any distraction when they come up.
Go through all cues that can impact the perception for them and the audience.
Then I walk the room as a delegate. Hear, see, but most of all feel the room.
Many issues reveal themselves when you sharpen your senses with a fresh perspective. It can be as simple as the right level of audience light for the walk-in and the show.
This is not just for producers.
If you are an event owner, do this with your technical team. Nine out of ten times, you find something, even if it is just the missing water at the lectern.
Yes and sometime it means skipping dinner to test if Super Mario works on the large screen, as my colleagues "had" to do in Lisbon.
